Residual Waste

Residual Waste

Residual Waste is the waste left after all recyclables have been removed. This type of waste is destined for landfills and it should be reduced to zero through effective waste minimisation procedures.

It is in everyone's interest to eliminate landfill waste as much as possible. This means purchasing and using recyclable (or compostable) packaging and products as a preference. Over time, all residual waste should be eliminated so that zero-waste status is eventually achieved.

RESIDUAL WASTE IS WASTE THAT IS NOT RECYCLABLE - IT SHOULD BE MANAGED DOWN TO ZERO.

Most waste collection companies are led by waste and rely on the revenues they generate from sending waste to landfills. A lot of this landfill waste contains important recyclables. Most waste companies tend to supply recycling services as a supplementary service rather than a core service.

Reclaim do things differently. We are changing the way waste removal services are perceived and valued. While we prefer to collect full bins (with little air), our competitors prefer to collect empty bins (with a lot of air). Our goal is to switch businesses over to a new way of managing waste removal. By providing a Residual Waste service, we believe attention and interest in the need to divert waste to landfills will increase. Our customers are encouraged to correctly deposit their recyclable waste and reduce the amount of residual waste they generate. In doing this, waste collection schedules become less frequent and/or larger bins are replaced by smaller bins, and eventually only recycling bins are used with no landfill waste at all. Reduced landfill waste leads to reduced running costs.

REDUCED LANDFILL WASTE = FINANCIAL SAVINGS.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why should I eliminate waste going to landfills?
A lot of the waste sent to landfills never goes away, it just stays there rotting. Some waste breaks down as harmless matter, but too much ends up producing methane gases and/or toxic sludge (both can escape landfills and harm our environment).
